Delaware Valley College is in the market for a new track and field and cross country coach.
Current coach Ed Andrewlevich is resigning for personal reasons after more than a decade of service, college officials announced Thursday.
Andrewlevich just completed his ninth year in charge of the track and field program; this past fall was his 10th as head coach of the cross country teams. Prior to becoming the head coach, he served as an assistant in cross country for one year and in track and field for two seasons.
"It has been my privilege to be part of the Delaware Valley College community for so many years as the head cross country and track and field coach,? Andrewlevich said in a statement released Thursday.? ?The opportunity to impact the student-athletes and enjoy watching their successes in the classroom and on the athletic field has been a wonderful experience.?
?As the programs have grown over the years, so have my personal demands of working full time, coaching and family life.? With that in mind, I made the difficult decision to step away from coaching for personal reasons.? I am appreciative to all in the DelVal community that have helped me along the way."
The cross country and track and field programs have received many accolades under Andrewlevich?s tutelage as standouts Meghan Donovan, Caitlin Dorgan, Alexis Maylor, Tom Masterson and Travis Pitts have dominated on the conference, regional and national level. In fact, the five have combined for 20 individual Middle Atlantic Conference championships, 10 national qualifiers, eight MAC Athlete of the Year awards and seven All-America accolades over the last four years.
Andrewlevich?s student-athletes also have produced in the classroom. Earlier this month, senior Rachelle Salem was recognized as the MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women?s indoor track and field, the highest academic honor in the conference. Salem and Pitts also are nominees for Academic All-America honors.
Andrewlevich started the Delaware Valley College Cross Country Invitational, which has run on the first Saturday of September for each of the last nine years. Delaware Valley also has hosted the MAC Cross Country Championships on a pair of occasions and is now a regular site in the conference?s championship rotation.?
?I want to thank Ed Andrewlevich for his time and dedication to Delaware Valley College,? Aggie athletic director Frank Wolfgang said. ?It was not easy to coordinate six different programs and he did so beyond all expectations and put his programs on the map.?
The search for Andrewlevich?s successor will begin immediately and continue until a suitable candidate is found for the part-time position.
