Shakira pushes education on visit to Jerusalem (AFP)

JERUSALEM (AFP) ? Colombian pop diva Shakira said on Tuesday that education was the best way to achieve global stability and peace after meeting Israeli and Palestinian school children on a visit to Jerusalem.

Speaking at a joint press conference with President Shimon Peres, the 34-year-old singer said she had come to Israel to share some of her experience working in the field of education through her charity The Barefoot Foundation.

"I'm convinced that investing in education is the best solution for global stability and peace," she said, after being presented with a traditional Yemeni necklace by a young Israeli girl.

"Education is the very substance of peace. I'm convinced of that."

Earlier on Tuesday, the singer, who is a goodwill ambassador for the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), visited two schools in the city, one of which is a bilingual Israeli-Palestinian school which educates children in Hebrew and Arabic in a bid to foster co-existence.

"I'm happy to be in Israel, the land which has been the mother of cultures and spirituality for so long," said the four-time-Grammy award winner who has penned hits such as "Hips don't lie" and "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)".

"The most crucial decision we can make for a better tomorrow is how we raise and educate our children," the singer said.

Peres appeared delighted to be appearing next to the tiny Latin American diva, although the ageing statesman addressed her several times as "Sharika" before being corrected by the audience of journalists.

"Your singing is a melody without violence, your priorities are directed to the poor... bringing them a message of a better world," he said. "Your rhythms are an inspiration."

Farrakhan: The White Man Made Obama Bomb Libya (Larry Elder)

Creators Syndicate ? The White Man made him do it.

Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan recently unmasked the reason for President Barack Obama's unpopular, non-congressionally authorized, War Powers Resolution-violating decision to bomb Libya, a country that poses no imminent threat to the United States.

"We voted for our brother, Barack," said Farrakhan, "a beautiful human being with a sweet heart, and now he's an assassin. They've turned him into them."

"Them," of course, refers to the evil, racist, manipulative, all-powerful White Man, who as in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," seized Obama's mind, body and soul, and changed him into an enemy of the poor, the downtrodden, the black.

Don't snicker. Farrakhan may be on to something.

Here's what presidential candidate Obama said about use of force: "The president does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation." Congress passed the War Powers Resolution in 1973 to restrain the president in non-imminent threat situations. Obama, however, disagrees that it applies to Libya. This humanitarian mission, Obama argues, does not involve "hostilities," a condition that triggers the WPR's application.

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, however, before Obama made his Libya decision, told Congress what a "no-fly zone" over Libya required: "Let's just call a spade a spade. A no-fly zone begins with an attack on Libya to destroy the air defenses ... and then you can fly planes around the country and not worry about our guys being shot down." Sounds a lot like "hostilities." And Americans, by a two-to-one ratio, oppose military involvement in Libya.

The White Man, says Farrakhan, forced Obama to bomb Libya for the oil. Obama's alleged humanitarian intent, he said, is merely a "noble motive to hide (America's) wicked agenda!"

Farrakhan's analysis also explains Obama's job-killing domestic economic policies ? the disastrous effect of which disproportionately hurts blacks. The White Man, after President Ronald Reagan, vowed, "Never again!"

Reagan, in the early '80s, faced an even tougher economy, with higher unemployment, higher inflation and higher interest rates. Reagan cut taxes, slowed the rate of domestic spending and decreased regulation on businesses.

Reagan, from The White Man's perspective, was catastrophic: Black adult unemployment fell faster than white adult unemployment, black teen unemployment fell faster that white teen unemployment, black businesses were created at a rate faster than white businesses, and the revenues of black businesses grew faster than those of white businesses. Egads!

Sociologist Charles Murray, in one of the most important books on public policy in the last 50 years, "Losing Ground," explained how welfare dependency increased the number of black out-of-wedlock births. The Welfare Reform Act of 1996 resulted in a dramatic decline in the welfare rolls, without a corresponding increase in abortion. Welfare recipients, a large percentage of whom are minorities, found jobs and became self-sufficient.

The White Man discovered an inexperienced, left-wing, collectivist, spread-the-wealth, tax-the-rich black senator from Illinois who had not read Murray's book or, if he had, did not believe it. In fact, then-Illinois State Senator Obama spoke out against the Welfare Reform Act.

Determined not to repeat the Reagan mistake, The White Man hatched a plan.

Obama would be The One.

The White Man engineered his election, then programmed the charismatic Obama to enact policies guaranteed to have the opposite effect of Reagan's policies:

The White Man made Obama sign costly "health care reform," which causes employers to drop coverage, premiums to increase and health care quality to decline.

The White Man made Obama raise the minimum wage. This increases unemployment for those with the lowest skills, a disproportionate percentage of whom are black.

The White Man made Obama sign laws to rein in "Wall Street greed," but left untouched the real reasons behind the housing meltdown: Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, the FHA and the Community Reinvestment Act, all of which induced the otherwise non-creditworthy ? a disproportionate percentage of whom are racial minorities ? to take on mortgages they could not afford.

The White Man made Obama oppose choice in education, including the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship program that, by lottery, gave vouchers to inner-city Washington, D.C., children and saw high school graduation rates increase from 70 percent for applicants not offered a scholarship to 82 percent for the scholarship recipients.

The White Man made Obama support a nearly trillion-dollar "stimulus" package ? largely giving money to state workers and other supporters of the Democratic Party. It neither "saved or created" 3.5 million jobs nor prevented unemployment from reaching 8 percent. Unemployment actually rose to 10.2 percent, and now stands at 9.1 percent.

The results have exceeded The White Man's expectations. Black teen unemployment is nearly 41 percent. The unemployment rate for black adult males is 17.5 percent. Yes, Obama's war for Big Oil and his anti-black economic polices mean lots of whites get trampled in the process. Collateral damage. Friendly fire. Addition by subtraction.

The White Man, as Farrakhan duly notes, is back.

Dig up Regarding Sports Affairs Intellectual Property Rights ...

Intellectual Property (IP) rights (patents, industrial styles, trademarks, copyright, and many others) are generally linked with market, typically the production market. Syrian troops take over northwestern town

June 20, 2011

BEIRUT (AP) ? Syrian troops backed by tanks and helicopter gunships swept into another northwestern city early Friday, just days after laying siege to it, activists said. Big demonstrations were expected nationwide as the Syrian people pressed on with the uprising to oust President Bashar Assad.

Syria?based rights activist Mustafa Osso said large numbers of soldiers entered Maaret al?Numan. It was not immediately clear whether there were any casualties in the operation.

Many of the residents of Maaret al?Numan, a town of 100,000 on the highway linking Damascus with Syria's largest city, Aleppo, have fled after Syrian forces swept through the northwestern province of Idlib last week near the Turkish border.

Omar Idilbi of the Local Coordination Committees, a group that documents anti?government protests, said troops are in full control of the town.

Since anti?government protests erupted in mid?March, inspired by democratic revolutions in autocrat?ruled Tunisia and Egypt, Assad has unleashed the military in region after region to crush street demonstrations. Human rights activists say more than 1,400 Syrians have been killed and 10,000 have been detained.

The operation in Maaret al?Numan coincided with opposition calls for protests Friday throughout the country naming it "The Day of Saleh al?Ali." Al?Ali was an Alawite leader who led an uprising against French colonial rule in the 20th century.

The opposition has been giving a name for every Friday since the uprising began 13 weeks ago but using the name of an Alawite leader was designed to show Assad's opponents were not rising up over secular concerns.

The Assad regime is dominated by the Alawite minority, an offshoot of Shiite Islam, but the country is overwhelmingly Sunni Muslim.

Alawite dominance has bred resentment, which Assad has worked to tamp down by pushing a strictly secular identity in Syria. But the president now appears to be relying heavily on his Alawite power base, beginning with highly placed Assad relatives, to crush the resistance.

Osso, the rights activists, said troops are now massing around the town of Khan Sheikhon, south of Maaret al?Numan. Earlier this month, any army forces were attacked by gunmen in the area. Two government tanks were damaged in the melee, the activists said.

A Syrian military official was quoted by SANA, the state?run news agency, as saying the army deployed near Maaret al?Numan and Khan Sheikhon to prevent "armed terrorist organizations" from cutting the highway.

Syrian tanks and the government's most loyal troops have been trying to prevent the uprising from gaining a territorial base for a wider armed rebellion against Assad.

Some 9,000 Syrians have already sought refuge in camps in neighboring Turkey during the latest military crackdown, which authorities said was necessary to rid the area of "armed terrorists." The government blames a foreign conspiracy for the unrest, saying religious extremists are behind it ? not true reformers.

Managing The Knowledge Base In Educational Industry - Articles And ...

Managing The Knowledge Base In Educational Industry

INTRODUCTION

?The basic economic resource is no longer capital, nor natural resources, nor labor.? It is and will be knowledge.?

?

Peter Drucker

?Educational Institutions need to tackle challenges of outdated teaching techniques. Leading education organizations around the world are focused on the concept of sustainable improvement. The primary goal is to create an environment that delivers better learning. A common theme that runs through all strategies for improvement is enhanced communication and collaboration between the important stakeholders groups in the education environment ? students, alumni and parents, administrators and teachers. To enable such changes it is essential they create a robust collaborative Knowledge Management system which will be the propelling force that will help them achieve their goals. KM enables timely and effective collaboration on curriculum development, sharing of teaching best practices for benefit of organization, better online tools for managing daily information sharing between students & teachers, Case studies, Research & white papers and etc

?KM METHODOLOGY ? Reference to Educational industry [PROCESS]

?Knowledge is what I know;

Information is what we know.

?Interest in knowledge creation within the institution is growing at an astounding rate. The most effective way to create knowledge sharing culture is first to start practice at individual faculty level. Faculty with appropriate knowledge sharing mindset and the appropriate knowledge sharing technology to support them, the two together, will enable the creation of knowledge effectively. Once the knowledge is created, capturing takes place where in the knowledge database is created and all necessary data is been stored in the form of documents, white papers, Research works, Case studies and in various formats to be presented in usable format and there by making use of knowledge in the broader context. Massive amounts of resources on a daily basis will be present in a institution that they must gather, categorize, interpret and disseminate efficiently.

?In certain situations, it can be more than threatening for a faculty to introduce knowledge into systems and actively search out that which others have introduced. It can also require a substantial amount of time and effort. Therefore, faculty needs to be highly motivated in order to undertake such work. It is only when a knowledge manager adopts the principle of knowledge sharing for the whole institution that knowledge is shared and reused spontaneously.

?Knowledge, in addition to being shared between faculties, must be distributed by an institution to its faculty and management community. The dissemination of knowledge has a massive impact on the formation of competitive advantage. It is broadly agreed that in order to ensure the proper dissemination of knowledge it is necessary both to lubricate communication and nurture the right culture in the institution.

?Knowledge, in addition to being shared between faculty members, must be distributed by an institution to its entire faculty community. The dissemination of knowledge has a massive impact on the formation of competitive advantage. Dissemination also requires the transformation of highly individualized tacit knowledge into more widely shared explicit knowledge. It is not the organizations which own the best knowledge that achieve competitive advantage but, rather, those that make the best use of it. In order to make the best use of knowledge it should be fully applied to the activities of the institution and this would require that all the other knowledge processes, namely, creation, dissemination and sharing, should be taking place.

KM STRATEGY- Reference to Educational industry

??Knowledge Management is the Innovative and Effective Aid to sustain the knowledge of the faculty and students to gain an edge in the industry?

?Developing a knowledge management strategy provides a unique opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the way the institution operates, and the challenges that confront it. By focusing on identifying staff needs and issues, activities and initiatives can be recommended with the confidence that these will have a clear and measurable impact upon the institution. To be successful, a KM strategy must do more than just outline high-level goals such as ?become a knowledge-enabled institution Instead, the strategy must identify the key needs and issues within the institution, and provide a framework for addressing these.

?Knowledge management strategies and drivers must be reviewed from a human resources perspective. The Faculty development cell assists the leadership of an institution in identifying the sources of the required knowledge and the best way to capture it, as well as assessing mastery of knowledge among employees and determining the benefits of that assessment to the institution. Knowledge management can be considered successful if faculty understands how knowledge adds value, how it is created, and why it needs to be managed. The role of Faculty development cell can be summarized as follows:

(a) Training and developing knowledge workers (Faculty);

(b) Developing Asst. Professor, Senior Lecturers and Lecturers as knowledge coordinators;

(c) Building a knowledge-sharing culture.

(d) Developing Professors to be as a part of Km Team

?KM ARCHITECTURE IN EDUCATIONAL INDUSTRY [TECHNOLOGY]

?Knowledge has become the key driving force in the present day world. It is generally believed that the only source of competitive advantage in future will be the knowledge. Therefore, in this newly emerging environment, educational industry are required to develop successful KM Architecture, to achieve sustainable competitive advantage; this is possible only through KM Portal. KM architecture is the process which explains the technology and flow of knowledge among the knowledge workers. Knowledge workers include Faculty and students.

?The following prototype will predict the knowledge flow and effectiveness of knowledge sharing in educational industry.

?The prototype consists of three blocks through which knowledge flows:

-????????? Faculty/ Student (Creation & Capture)

-????????? Knowledge Management Team (Organise & Verify)

-????????? Faculty/ Student/ Management (Access & Use)

?First Block:

Faculty Shares the class/ subject resources, Cases, White Papers, Research work, Latest information about the subject and in general. The contents are stored in Documents, Presentations and etc and are stored category/ Function wise.

?Second Block:

KM Team is formed and comprises of Subject matter experts based on there specialization. The experts can be Professors, Asst Professors level to review the stored documents and presentations. After verification key points are given to the faculty along with the feedback.

The verified knowledge is stored back to knowledge base for publication, paper presentations, etc and sent to third block

?Third Block:

After the review process the Knowledge is available to other faculty, Students and management were the knowledge is shared and gained by others.

INDUSTRY

KM ORGANISATION [PEOPLE]

KM Organisation is the process of Creating KM Team and defining Roles & Responsibilities of the team members in Verifying the Knowledge Captured and Approval of the same.

With increasing emphasis on knowledge-based culture, management is seeking ways to get that knowledge under management remit. The goal is to manage this aspect of the enterprise in the same way as its physical and financial assets. Charged with this are the new roles of ?knowledge managers? with responsibility for creating the environment and process for dealing with knowledge as a corporate asset

Central to current concerns is the issue of KM Team. Teams, ascribed as the powerhouse of the effective institution, are more intractable from a knowledge management point of view than individuals. By their very nature teams create a great deal of new knowledge, which as such is of high value to the institution. However, the knowledge of how and why they created what they created is more difficult to get at than an individual?s knowledge, since it exists in a number of different people, and also in their continuous interaction and collaboration.

Km Team comprises of SME?s (Knowledge Managers) which includes Professors, Asst. Professor and Research Associates. The Role is to verify the captured knowledge and send Feedback to the Knowledge Worker. ?Key Points? (KP) are allotted to each knowledge worker based on there knowledge they have shared.

PROS OF KM IN TODAYS ECONOMY RECESSION

Economic recession has created a challenge among the students to be competent enough to gain advantage of the limited job opportunities. Thus, KM will help the students to sharpen there skill and be updated with the latest technology and insight of multidimensional concepts.

-????????? Competent

-????????? Knowledge about Latest technology

-????????? Research skill

-????????? Insight

-????????? Collaborative Culture

-????????? Team Work

-????????? Conceptual Knowledge

CONCLUSION

KM itself has come a long way and has a long way to go from where it is now. It is indeed a long journey and the trip has just begun. Educational Industry has to sustain the knowledge of the faculty and students to gain an edge in the industry. This is possible only through ?Effective implementation of Knowledge Management Portal?. A Key success factor in KM is getting optimal emphasis on each of the four focal area People, Process, technology and Content right from the early stages of deployment.

?Knowledge management is necessary for Education Industry because what worked yesterday may or may not work tomorrow?

?

?

I am vanitha, working as a faculty in leading management school in chennai, india. My area of interest is human resources, system, KM.

Tracy Morgan to apologize for remarks in Nashville (AP)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. ? Comedian Tracy Morgan was in Nashville, Tenn., Tuesday to issue an apology to the lesbian and gay community after an anti-gay rant during his June 3 show there drew fire.

Morgan was scheduled to address reporters Tuesday morning at the Nashville Convention Center after meeting with members of the audience who were offended by his comedy routine and representatives from gay advocacy groups.

The "30 Rock" actor already has issued a public apology. He met with homeless lesbian and gay youth and advocates Friday in New York City as well. Morgan agreed to the Nashville meeting at the request of Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation President Jarrett Barrios.

Morgan was not expected to take questions during the news conference.

The former "Saturday Night Live" cast member is known for an outrageous, unpredictable comedy style where few subjects are taboo. He's tackled homosexual themes and characters before with little outcry. But even Morgan admits he went too far during his June 3 show at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

He said during his set that if his son were gay, he would "pull out a knife and stab" him, among other anti-gay statements.

Audience member Kevin Rogers was offended by Morgan's routine and his posting on Facebook brought widespread attention to its content. Rogers is among those Morgan is scheduled to speak with Tuesday before he addresses reporters.

Morgan also is expected to participate in a GLAAD anti-bullying public service campaign.

MP on struggling tobacco market: Reduce quantity, think quality

Friday, 17 June 2011 12:39

Written by ABEL WEZZI

LILONGWE?It shouldn?t come as a surprise that Malawian tobacco farmers are failing to make money this year, says Kasungu South East MP Bokosi Khamba who believes it?s about time the country had few producers of the leaf.

?Tobacco prices are a source of concern,? said Khamba as he commented on the 2012 budget presented earlier this month by Finance Minister Ken Kandodo. ?This is an economic crop and not political as others want to make it in this House. We should allow tobacco to be grown in Mzimba and

Rumphi, Kasungu, Mchinji, Dowa, Ntchisi and parts of Lilongwe to be the ones to grow high quality leaf.?

He said districts such as Nkhotakota, Salima, Karonga, Chikhwawa and Nsanje should focus on cotton which has the potential to earn the country the much needed foreign exchange rather than depending on tobacco which hasn?t been well lately.

But with a touch of humour, Blantyre Rural East MP Henry Dama Phoya wanted Khamba to ?clarify on the type of tobacco that Nkhotakota grows.?
Speaker of Parliament Henry Chimunthu Banda, who is from Nkhotakota jumped in and said his district ?just like Salima, Lilongwe, Dowa and Kasungu is well known for the type of tobacco called burley.?

But that?s not what Phoya was trying to get at as he didn?t ask about the other districts. Nkhotakota is known for producing a highly potent form of cannabis sativa or marijuana. Although illegal, Malawi?s marijuana locally known as chamba is popular among the youth and Rastafarians. In the back streets of South Africa and the United Kingdom, users are willing to pay high prices for the substance.--maravipost

This Dad Will Keep His New iPad Father's Day Gift (NewsFactor)

When Apple released the iPad last year with great fanfare and following weeks of rumors, I figured the device would be an excellent replacement for both my well-worn Palm Pilot and my outdated iPod.

But just as I wouldn't want to be the first to buy a home in a new development, see an expensive Broadway show on opening night, or dine in a newly minted restaurant, I planned to let reviewers and early adopters put the new tablet computer through the trials before I shelled out my hard-earned coin.

Hint, Hint

About a year and 15 million iPads sold later, I began dropping not-so-subtle hints to my wife and kids that the revolutionary gadget might make a splendid birthday/Father's Day gift (lucky for me, those dates are in close sequence).

Since the iPad 2 is not only slimmer and lighter but also packs an A4 processor that's twice as fast, double the RAM, the upgraded operating system iOS 4.3, and front- and rear-facing cameras, it was definitely worth the wait; all the more so since I'll probably be using the iPad 2 when there's an iPad 7. (Although I write about the latest gadgets, I don't get free samples.)

The hints paid off and my new iPad 2, complete with Apple's clever magnetic "smart cover," has been in my life for two weeks now.

So how does it live up to the hype? Should you get an iPad for your dad?

To answer the second question first, you probably can't in time for Sunday, because it usually takes a few weeks to get an iPad from Apple's online store (three in my case), and it's hard to find them in stock at retailers. But you could give him an I.O.U for one.

Now for the hype question.

Instant Start

First the praise. As someone accustomed to switching on a laptop or desktop 10 minutes or so before I'm ready to work, I love the instant start-up. Lift the cover and the touchscreen comes to life with your apps obediently ready for action. If your Wi-Fi is already configured, tap Safari and you're on the Internet in seconds.

The gorilla-glass touchscreen feels durable and scratch-resistant, although I'm surely not going to put it through more serious testing other than letting my 10-year-old use it and carry it around the house. Some reports of rough testing say it can be fragile.

Apple's e-mail app is pretty basic compared to, say, Mozilla's Thunderbird, but is perfectly serviceable, as is the calendar and notepad, and there are, of course, numerous better apps available for these functions from the App Store, downloadable in seconds.

Now the gripes. Here are a few things that bother me about the iPad.

? No trash. To remove an unwanted icon from the desktop, you have to hold it down until an X appears and then click it. If you remove it by mistake or change your mind, you're out of luck. The trash can was one of the great user-interface innovations of the Mac, and the best thing about it is it keeps items in limbo until they are permanently disposed of.

? iTunes video navigation. Here's where the lack of mechanical buttons other than the home key becomes a problem. Video playback is superb, but if you miss an important plot point or punch line (as I often do) and want to rewind just slightly, you have to drag a tiny sliding ball with your finger, nearly impossible for precision playback, and often end up jumping back to a previous scene.

? No arrow keys on the keyboard. It has been widely noted that the iPad is primarily a media-consumption device not well suited for productivity. If you discover a mistake in an e-mail or note, or want to insert text, good luck getting back to that spot. You can either delete everything between the mistake and the cursor or try to put your finger on that spot to move the cursor there. Sans mouse, it's very hard to navigate through text without arrow keys. You can, of course, get a dock or Bluetooth keyboard.

? Oversensitive rotation. The iPad's supersensitive gyroscope is great for playing games, but if you're using it to watch videos or read, any slight movement can send it from landscape to portrait mode, whether or not that's what you intended. You can, however, choose to use the side button to disable the rotation instead of using it to disable mute.

? No Flash. Many videos will not play on the iPad because of Apple's notorious aversion to Adobe's rendering program. You can download SkyFire to do an end run around this. Under the same heading, there is also no flash for the cameras.

? Ghosts in the machine. Sometimes, for no explicable reason, apps quit or the screen goes dark and locks, probably also owing to oversensitivity to gestures.

? Recharge Time. The iPad's power shows no discernible difference from short plug-ins. Based on posts in user forums, the typical time to fully recharge is three to four hours, and it will not charge at all from a USB connection to a non-Mac computer. A wall charger is included.

As for the smart cover, which is sold separately for $40, it doesn't attach very well and can come off while you're using it as a stand.

None of these problems are what you might call a deal breaker, and some may be corrected by apps or system updates, but they were something of a disappointment, given all the hype I've been listening to for the past 17 months. So if your dad is a perfectionist and complainer, like me, you may hear about some of the above.

But one thing you most likely won't hear is "Did you keep the receipt?"

Does the press owe Newt Gingrich an apology? (The Week)

New York ? The hard-luck GOP presidential hopeful is furious over reports that his wife, Callista, chased away many of his top campaign staffers

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is demanding an apology from NBC News, after the network reported that his wife, Callista, had triggered an exodus of 16 senior staffers from his campaign. Anonymous former Gingrich advisers told NBC that staff members clashed with Callista over everything from scheduling to the alleged use of the campaign to promote films made by Gingrich's for-profit production company. Gingrich calls such reports "utterly reprehensible." Should NBC say it's sorry?

Yes. An apology is in order: Gingrich has a point, says Jason Linkins at The Huffington Post. NBC's scoop "boils down to gossipy nonsense from disgruntled staffers" who abandoned their former boss en masse. Instead of heaping blame on Callista, all those whiners should own up to the role they played in what's devolved into a "terrible presidential campaign."
"Newt Gingrich criticizes departed staffers, NBC News, for bashing his wife"

Well, Callista really is damaging Newt's campaign: Gingrich certainly seems beholden to Callista, says Jeannie DeAngelis at American Thinker. He can't "complete a single sentence without mentioning [her] name," and behaves like some "smitten lapdog." The last straw for many staffers reportedly came when Callista insisted that she and Newt take a cruise to Greece and Turkey when he should have been campaigning. It's entirely plausible that Callista sank the campaign.
"Did cruising with Callista doom Newt's campaign?"

Regardless, Newt's in trouble: "This much is indisputable: Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign suffered a major meltdown last week," says SodaHead News. He lost his longtime political adviser and friend Rick Tyler, campaign manager Rob Johnson, and his entire Iowa staff. And it's simply a statement of fact that staffers have complained that Newt and Callista have let their personal issues interfere with the campaign. Instead of attacking the messenger, Gingrich might want to focus on fixing his campaign.
"Should NBC apologize to Newt Gingrich over attack on wife?"

Canucks Fan Takes Grenade to the Junk

Let this be a lesson, rioters. It's not worth it. One minute you're steamed over your team losing Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The next? Boom.

In the case of this Vancouver Canucks fan, what started as good fun and stress relief blew up in a flash. A flash grenade to the crotch, that is.

We normally wouldn't tag a video such as this in our "LOL" section, but when you're rioting by choice after a hockey game, you ask for it ...

The best way to learn about FB PPC is to do a trial campaign. I started mine about a day ago and have yet to see any conversions.

Let?s Make A Musical: Thoughts On The NBA Finals And The Psychology Of Enjoying Failure

June 15th, 2011 | by Justin Fritze |

It says something that almost every person that despises LeBron came out with long proclamations that make no sense, seeing as how he is 26 years old. That?s correct. 26 years old. People are so forward with their claims that they proclaim he will not even achieve a single championship.

Did he shrink under the pressure? Sure. But to say that the pressure put on LeBron James and the pressure put on Michael Jordan are even in the same ballpark, would be insane. Is LeBron James Michael Jordan? No, he?s Lebron James.

With social media and the amount of press generated on a daily basis, Michael did not have to deal with articles about teammates having sex with his mother or girlfriend. He did not have 4,000 bloggers on his back because he was stuck with a horrible franchise, a horrible owner, and let?s face it, a rather small town mentality that looked like 4 year olds stuck in the bodies of 34 year olds. Remember, someone in Cleveland had to OK that witness poster.

Was Miami the answer? Probably not, but to leave Cleveland was a PROFESSIONAL decision. Because, let?s look at this, any other field of work would not even create one article of scorn, much less complete hatred. So to do something that was NOT illegal, and create a movement to burn and destroy pictures of someone, it makes fans look like religious fanatics and not sports fans. LeBron is not a religion, and it?s your fault as a fan for treating him as one.

Do I think the bracelet with King James on it is ridiculous? Hell yes. Do I think that over the top preseason stunt was too much? Hell yes. But guess what? Other people were involved in that besides LeBron James. Business people. The same people who decided to turn Miami upside down in creating LeBron burgers, hotel suites, and other sick twisted merchandising opportunities.

To all the people that got offended by him talking about his postgame comments, go check what he said today. He knew he isn?t better than other people. He plays basketball, he doesn?t cure cancer. And he didn?t steal your 401k. For anyone to think a basketball player is the highest form of humanity, they really need to get a grip on reality. As a sidenote, try getting told you suck for about 20 times and not getting at least a little upset. To be honest, I am shocked he didn?t reach across the table and choke Gregg Doyel.

So lets move on to Dallas, shall we? Dirk was a man amongst boys. There is absolutely no way to dispute that. He was a German romantic hero. He didn?t have the physique, the look, the speed. Yet he had one of the greatest shots of all time. A shot you can?t teach. His shooting coach could write a book, do a movie, and create an entire school, but he probably wont, which only adds more to the mystique.

Jason Terry was a New York Jet. He talked and walked. Actually he ran, right to the basket. It made Rex Ryan weep.

Dallas deserves everything they get, and Lebron deserves some of what he gets, but when your joy is in others failures, try for a moment to imagine being the close relative of someone like LeBron, when you have no public voice, no defense, just the continuous cackling of the deranged hate-mongers everywhere you go.

As a final note, to look at the childish mentality of all of Ohio, look at the governor, who after the Mavericks won, named them honorary Ohioans. Wow. You really showed LeBron. Don?t scorn us, or we will pass resolutions. Why don?t you just go Harry Potter and make it a fine to speak of LeBron James in public?

Asher Smith: What Republicans Talk About When They Want to Talk About the Economy

Mitt Romney really wants to talk about the economy. Or at least he wants to talk about talking about the economy. Quizzed during the June 13 Republican presidential debate by CNN's John King about gays serving in the military, Romney answered with chagrin. "We ought to be talking about the economy and jobs," he replied, only condescending to answer "given the fact you're insistent."

Yet when asked what would happen if Congress fails to raise the debt ceiling, Romney dodged with a question of his own, this one rhetorical: "Well, what happens if we continue to spend time and time again, year and year again more money than we take in?" Presuming that the correct answer is that the country may eventually default, we have all witnessed a stroke of debating genius: an infinite feedback loop of obfuscation and evasion capable of sustaining itself for an eternity.

Any substantive discussion of economic concerns during the debate at Saint Anselm College was most conspicuous through its absence. Though the first question of the night focused on private sector job growth, few answers delved beyond the need for tax cuts. Asked for proof that lowering tax rates will boost employment, Tim Pawlenty shot back by labeling President Obama a "declinist." Newt Gingrich, when presented with the results of a recent Boston Globe survey showing that a majority of New Hampshire Republicans support tax increases on the wealthy, cited the "Reagan Recovery" as a counterpoint. As Slate's Dave Weigel points out, this recovery occurred "after a tax cut followed by years of tax increases, including FICA tax increases."

The most audacious financial policy duck of the night clearly belonged to Michele Bachmann. Asked about legislation she sponsored to repeal Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform, the congresswoman instead announced her filing of paperwork making her candidacy official. Distracted, King shifted the conversation to Ron Paul, a predictable prelude to bringing the discussion to a close. As for Bachmann, she never did get back to the topic of how she would regulate the financial industry.

With Pawlenty refusing to take the opportunity offered to raise his recent criticisms of Romney, the first major debate of the election cycle was more an exercise in wheel-spinning than anything else. King's "This or That" questions to candidates -- concerning whether they favored Jay Leno or Conan O'Brien, spicy or mild hot wings, Elvis or Johnny Cash, or American Idol or Dancing With the Stars -- did nothing to combat the perception that everyone on stage was seeking little more than to run down the clock.

There is no requirement, however, that presidential debates -- even the early contests -- conform to such a shallow model. It is possible to conduct forums that produce substantial discussions. Dedicating entire or extended segments of debates on particular topics, as occurred in 2008, has proven a useful tool for forcing more pointed discussions. Debates sponsored by single-issue interest groups -- in 2008, Democratic candidates sparred in forums provided by the AFL-CIO and LGBT advocates -- can yield similarly focused contests.

Unfortunately -- consequently? -- almost all scheduled GOP debates are fully sponsored by media organizations. Of those that have other sponsors, only one debate, a July 10 meeting in Las Vegas co-sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform, seems likely to focus on a particular topic, albeit one that would not seem to force any candidates out of their comfort zones. As circumstances stand now, the time and placed of the extended conversation on the economy and jobs all candidates claim to crave is still to be decided. No need to worry, though. Surely, Mitt Romney will have loads to say about how much he wishes to eventually have that discussion.

Short Story Quick Reviews ? The Gauntlet and ... - Just Book Reading

The Gauntlet: A Kit Marlowe Short

By Karen Chance

Smashwords Edition ? Free Nook download from Barnes & Noble

3.75 stars

Kit Marlowe is a vampire working for Queen Elizabeth I.? He?s sent to the Queen?s prison in search of a witch to help with his work.? He finds the woman he needs at the prison, a powerful witch named Gillian, and decides she?s fit for what the Queen wants but before he can get out with her, a magical battle takes place between coven witches and mages, and Kit is forced to fight alongside Gillian to get out alive.

Witches, mages, and covens battling it out for the right of survival and throw in a vampire for fun and well, just call it fun.? Why not?? When I read this book I was on a fantasy bender and also a short story run which is not my usual preference but something was really appealing about this.? An hour?s worth of reading for a magical battle was just what I needed.? Chance didn?t skimp on the magic and while it would have been great to have more information on how the magical system worked, there wasn?t much time for that but I was OK with it.? Kit and Gillian carry it off and though much is left unexplained, it was still entertaining.

The Queen?s Witch: A Kit Marlowe Short

Karen Chance

Smashwords Edition ? Free Nook Download from Barnes & Noble

3.75 stars

The Gauntlet?s follow-up.? Having recently escaped from a prison stronghold with a vampire named Kit, Gillian is now a witch with a price on her head.? Kit, however, needs her once more promising to take Gillian and her daughter to safety after she helps him procure a jewel meant to poison the Queen.

I have a Nook and while browsing the Barnes & Noble online store one day I found these free downloads.? Both looked interesting enough so I took advantage.? Really, free books, how could one not.? :-) ? This one is short, only 37 pages, but it was fun.? Gillian and Kit have an entertaining relationship and it being so short there isn?t much background here ? more is in The Gauntlet which preceded this one ? but I found myself liking the two characters more and more and wondering if I could find more shorts.? And then I thought I would even be willing to pay.? Gillian and Kit feel like fully developed characters and while the story does feel as if there should be more, it was a good few page for me.
